The escalation of the Covid-19 virus has brought about immediate changes to working protocols at SGA Technologies.
Our crucial manufacturing processes require us to maintain certain levels of on-site staff, but taking guidance from UK Government, we have implemented a number of new shift practices to limit the number of staff on-site as far as possible.
When on-site, staff at SGA Technologies are kept a minimum of 2 metres apart, with workspaces moved around to accommodate this. Limited numbers of people are allowed on tea and lunch breaks at the same time, and departments are kept separate where possible to limit the chance of inter-departmental cross contamination.
Says HR Manager Debbie de Silva, “We are very conscious of the risks posed by the virus and have acted as fast as possible to implement procedures to keep our staff and any visitors safe.
“All vulnerable staff or those who feel most at risk have been furloughed, and staff who are able to work from home have been requested to do so. We have implemented new daily communication protocols using Microsoft Teams so that staff are able to meet daily and carry on with their responsibilities as normally as possible.
“Fortunately, we had been using Teams before, so this has been an adjustment to an existing practice, rather than having to introduce it from scratch. We have tried to be as fluid and flexible as possible, helping our staff deal with any concerns, and we’re confident that we will be able to carry on with business as usual whilst keeping a close eye on the situation.”
